Abstract

In recent years the concept of a "Virtual Organization" has been formulated to describe all those distributed communities willing to share their resources in order to achieve common goals. A Virtual Organization is a set of resources, users and rules governing of the sharing of the resources. The main problem of VOs is the following: how can members of a VO access shared resources in an easy, transparent, coordinated and secure way?

What we need is an infrastructure and standard interfaces capable of providing transparent access to all this computing power and storage space in a uniform way.

Grid technologies aim to support VOs and provide solutions to these challenges.

In this talk, the following content will be addressed:

  1. the grid computing key areas
  2. the specification of OGSA,OGSI,WSRF
  3. the pillar and evolution of Globus toolkit, and the character of current GT4 based on WSRF.
  4. Industry specific areas of use
