GlobeCon - a scalable context management framework

Abstract

Since the concept of ubiquitous computing was introduced by Weiser fifteen year ago, pervasive computing or ubiquitous computing has becoming a large and thriving research field. Briefly speaking, the vision of pervasive computing is to access information and software applications at any time, from any where, and using any computing devices. The main characteristic of pervasive computing is user centricity, which means technology automatically moves into the background and self adapts to people. For the automatic adaptation, services and applications in ubiquitous computing need to have sufficient information of the people and their immediate and/or possibly future contexts. Therefore, context awareness plays an essential role in order to realize the user centric ubiquitous computing. In this presentation, I will talk about our proposed reference model for scalable context management framework. Based on this reference model, I will introduce our design and some implementation details of the GlobeCon, a scalable hierarchical context management framework.
